City of Edmonton – Yellowhead Trail to 156 St

As part of the Yellowhead Freeway Conversion Project, Standard General Edmonton completed a variety of infrastructure upgrades on the Yellowhead Trail between 156th Street and St. Albert Trail. These upgrades were completed as part of the greater Yellowhead Conversion Project, organized and coordinated by the City of Edmonton, which is expected to fully convert the Yellowhead Trail into a free-flowing freeway by 2027.

After permanently closing the intersections at 142nd and 149th Streets, our team completed a number of enhancements to improve the efficiency and safety of the corridor for all road users. These enhancements included road widening, median reconstruction, drainage upgrades, and new pavement surfacing. Our work resulted in improved traffic flow, expanded roadway capacity and enhanced access for businesses and surrounding neighbourhoods.

This project was key in easing congestion along a heavily travelled corridor and improving long-term transportation efficiency in northwest Edmonton. Throughout the project, Standard General Edmonton coordinated all parties to keep timelines tight and quality high, now allowing for three lanes of free-flowing traffic in each direction. Our work also allowed for an increase in speed to 80 km/h, which is an essential enhancement for roadways in high-traffic urban environments.
